iTunes Free Songs of the Week: 7/19/2011
Here’s the latest iTunes Free Songs of the Week (download at your own risk!):
Title: “A Buncha Girls”, a single by the artist Frankie Ballard.
Genre: Country
For those into: Matt Stillwell, Chase Rice, etc…
iTunes download link: A Buncha Girls – Frankie Ballard
Our thoughts?: He’s got a decent voice. Sounds like a mixture of Bryan Adams and maybe Johnny Reznik? Not our kind of music, but it’s not horrible. The comments on the page seem to all be in support, at least. Probably worth a listen if you like country.
Title: “Summer Solstice”, off the album Two Way Mirror, by the band Crystal Antlers
Genre: Alternative, experimental
For those into: The Flaming Lips, … And You Will Know Us By the Trail of Dead, My Morning Jacket, Inspiral Carpets, etc…
iTunes download link: Summer Solstice – Crystal Antlers
Our thoughts?: Not bad at all. Very 80′s alt-punk.
Title: “You Can’t Keep Me”, off the album Stranger Me, by the artist Amy LaVere
Genre: Pop, alternative
For those into: Lykke Li, Warpaint, etc…
iTunes download link: You Can’t Keep Me – Amy LaVere
Our thoughts?: Initial reaction – she’s trying to be Avril LaVigne, in more ways than just her name. After giving it a chance, it’s not too bad for a freebie. Some of her other stuff is better, though.
Title: “A Contraluz”, a single by the band Cancion de la Semana
Genre: Latino pop
For those into: uhh…. Latino pop?
iTunes download link: A Contraluz – Cancion de la Semana
Our thoughts?: Agree with many of the comments on the download page. Sounds like a Latino opening to an anime program.
Title: “Advice”, a video download by the artist Christina Grimmie
Genre: Pop
For those into: Generic teen pop
iTunes download link: Advice – Christina Grimmie
Our thoughts?: Tried comparing her to someone, but every name I came up with had at least their own style, not a barcode.
